Welsh Triathlon

Welsh Triathlon is the National Governing Body (NGB) for triathlon in Wales.

It is run by a voluntary board and is bound by its articles.

An NGB has three main areas which it is responsible for – Governance, Performance and Domestic.

Governance. The Welsh Triathlon committee is charged with running the sport of triathlon in Wales.

Performance. Finding, nurturing and producing successful athletes is important for the image of any sport and is crucial to ensuring adequate levels of funding and attracting suitable sponsors. Sports that achieve great success at Olympic, World and Commonwealth Games attract more funding and more interest – we only have to look at British Cycling as a recent example of this. Welsh Triathlon has a National Talent Coach, Richard Brady, who is charged with identifying talented young athletes and developing them into highly competitive triathletes who can move onto the British Triathlon Performance Pathways and hopefully become medal winners at major games.

Domestic. The Welsh Triathlon committee seeks to provide a platform for all its members, be they  beginners or established GB representative Age-Group athletes. It arranges Welsh Championship events and a Grand Prix Series. In addition, it looks to encourage members to become volunteers, referees, coaches, race organisers and so on. Without such people the sport would be impossible to run.
