Team Wales Cycling Schedule: Glasgow 2026

Let’s go!

The cycling programme at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games gets underway on Thursday 30 July and runs through to Sunday 2 August, with Team Wales looking to make its mark at the iconic Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

This year’s Games are a little different. As part of a streamlined programme featuring just 10 sports, road cycling has been dropped, leaving track cycling and para track cycling to decide all cycling medals.

When Team Wales are racing

Cycling takes place across four days:

  • Thursday 30 July – Opening day of track cycling, including the team events.
  • Friday 31 July – Sprint and endurance events continue.
  • Saturday 1 August – More medal events on the track.
  • Sunday 2 August – The final day of track cycling, with the last medals of the Games to be decided.

Welsh riders to watch

Team Wales heads to Glasgow with a talented squad featuring a mix of experienced Commonwealth competitors and exciting young riders. The sprint events are likely to offer some of Wales’ best opportunities for medals, while the endurance squad will also be aiming to challenge against some of the Commonwealth’s strongest cycling nations.

Emma Finucane

If there’s one Welsh rider to keep your eyes on, it’s Emma Finucane. Already an Olympic champion and a multiple World Championship medallist, she’s established herself as one of the quickest sprinters on the planet. Expect her to be right in the mix for gold in the individual sprint events, while Wales will also look to her to lead the charge in the team sprint.

Rhys Britton

Rhys Britton brings a wealth of experience to the Welsh squad. A former world champion in the team pursuit, he’s a key figure in the men’s endurance squad and will be aiming to help Wales challenge for medals in the team pursuit, as well as making an impact in the individual endurance races.

Will Salter

One of Wales’ brightest young endurance riders, 19-year-old Will Salter will compete in the team pursuit, individual pursuit and points race. After winning U23 European team pursuit gold with Great Britain in 2025, he’ll be hoping to help Wales secure its first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the team pursuit. Having overcome a serious health setback in 2024, Salter arrives in Glasgow determined to help Wales make history.

Lowri Thomas

Lowri Thomas adds serious firepower to the Welsh sprint team. A Commonwealth medallist and multiple British champion, she’ll line up alongside Emma Finucane in the team sprint as Wales looks to fight for another place on the podium. She’s also more than capable of producing standout performances in the individual sprint events.

Megan Barker

Few riders have Megan Barker’s pedigree when it comes to endurance racing. A multiple world champion in the team pursuit, she’s been a consistent performer for Wales and Great Britain over the years. Her experience and tactical racing make her one of Wales’ strongest prospects in the endurance events.
