Our client Dafydd Davies is 33 and from Aberystwyth.
As he gears up for the ETU European championships in Lisbon this May, he looks back at his journey into triathlon and how he qualified for Team GB.
In 2009, my friends had all completed personal challenges such as marathons or half marathons. I decided that I wanted to do something of equal value, so I signed up for my first triathlon, the Dyfi Dash in Machynlleth. I loved the feeling of achievement I got when I completed the course and since then I’ve been hooked.
I did the Vitality London Triathlon in May 2015. There was an ITU World Series race taking place there at the same time and I managed to see the Brownlees up close! I also completed the Slateman triathlon up in Llanberis, and the Cardiff Triathlon in June 2015 where I finished 15th.
Back in September, I took part in the Bala Standard Distance Triathlon. The course included a 1500m swim through Llyn Tegid, a 40km bike and 10km run through the Snowdonia countryside.
On completing the triathlon, I found that I had qualified to represent Team GB as an age group athlete. It was an amazing achievement for me, I’d invested a lot into training and equipment so it’s great to be recognised for my hard work.
Looking forward, I am now in training to compete in the European championships in Lisbon on the 28th May.
My partner, Sian, and I have been with Pedalcover for over a year now, with both our cars, our home and bikes covered by them. It’s great as it’s a combined policy, whereas with others I would have to insure my bikes separately, they’re all covered under my home insurance.
I was absolutely thrilled when Darren and the team approached me and offered to sponsor my travel insurance for Lisbon, as a gesture of good luck and thanks. The support and service I get from them, with Jo even speaking my first language of Welsh, is second to none.
I look forward to achieving more great things with my cycling and triathlons and having Pedalcover by my side to protect my passion.
We’d like to wish Dafydd all the best of luck for May and any future races he takes part in and thank him for choosing Pedalcover for insurance across the board.
