Can you tell us a little about yourself and your cycling journey?

Hi, my name is Kate. I’ve been cycling for around 10 years and enjoy road, gravel and mountain biking.  I’ve done various events over the years, the most significant being riding the whole of the Tour de France route in 2022 with a group called Le Loop.

What type of incident led to your bicycle insurance claim with Pedal Cover?

I was hit by a driver while out cycling on my road bike. The bike frame was cracked and my helmet and clothing was also damaged.

How did you feel when the incident occurred, and what were your initial thoughts about making an insurance claim?

I was apprehensive about making a claim as my experience of insurance companies up to that moment was to be met with hostility.  I assumed that Pedal Cover would try to find a way not to honour my contract with them, as that has been my experience with other companies, but they were brilliant.

Can you describe the process of filing the claim with Pedal Cover? How straightforward and efficient was it?

The team at Pedal Cover was brilliant.  They responded to my initial claim immediately, and even expressed their sympathy that I had been involved in an accident.  This unexpected kindness really made a difference.  The process of filling in the claim was straightforward, and easily done online.

 

How did the customer service team at Pedal Cover assist you throughout the claim process?

The team were brilliant.  They were kind, responsive and helped lead me through every step of the process. They did not quibble at any point, and at all times made me feel like they were ‘on my side’ and wanted to help me get back out and on my bike again.  They even told me that I could claim for more than I had initially submitted – they told me I was eligible for physio, and that my helmet and clothes were covered too.

 

When it came to replacing my bike, they were incredibly flexible and helpful. I’m very short, and so there aren’t many brands / models that fit me.  My previous Scott Contessa model was no longer in production, but they allowed me to upgrade to a Specialized Tarmac SL8 which has very similar geometry and I paid the difference in price between the models. I was really impressed with this; they really cared that I got ‘the right’ bike, rather than just wanting to give me any old bike, or being constrained in matching the price of my old bike exactly.

What was the outcome of your claim, and how has it impacted your cycling experience since then?

My claim was processed efficiently and in a stress-free way.  I felt calm and happy thought that it was being handled by fellow cyclists, who were sympathetic to my claim.

I now have a beautiful Specialized Tarmac SL8.  It was delivered to my door, within 4 weeks of the accident.  I also received a new helmet, bibs and jersey.

Would you recommend Pedal Cover to other cyclists, and if so, what would you highlight about your experience?

Yes, 100%.  They were kind, friendly, supportive, and efficient and always answered my emails promptly.  I will definitely continue to use them and would (and have!) recommend them to my friends / fellow cyclists.
