Have I got the right policy?

If you’re planning a big cycling adventure, whether it’s a weekend sportive, a downhilling trip to Morzine, or a multi-day bike packing trip, it’s easy to assume that one insurance policy covers it all. But here’s the thing: Your Pedal Cover Bicycle Insurance and Pedal Cover Travel Insurance do very different jobs. Choosing the right one or knowing when you might need both, could be the difference between a smooth claims process and an expensive mistake.

Pedal Cover Bicycle Insurance-There to protect your bike

Quite simply, our bicycle insurance is designed to offer insurance for your bicycle and accessories against:

Theft-whether from your home, a vehicle, or while you’re out riding, we’re there for you if your bike is stolen.

Accidental damage, including crashes, transport damage, and even racing incidents (depending on your policy level)

Travelling abroad with your bike and worried about heavy-handed baggage handlers crushing your bike? We have that covered-Just make sure your bike is transported in a hard bike box. Check out our bike box guide here

Public liability is an option on all annual bicycle insurance policies(It’s automatically included on our combined home and bike policy)- if you accidentally injure someone or damage their property while cycling, they may take legal action against you.

What it doesn’t cover:

Bicycle insurance isn’t designed for medical treatment abroad, trip cancellation, or the costs of getting you home after an injury.

Pedal Cover Travel Insurance-Designed to cover you

Travel insurance is all about protecting you and your trip. It’s designed to cover:

Emergency medical treatment abroad if you’re injured or fall ill abroad. This includes Heli Rescue when medically necessary if you’re injured whilst mountain biking.

Repatriation. This means getting you home safely if you can’t travel as planned. Often this requires additional transport, new flight bookings and additional accommodation.  These costs can really mount up.

Trip cancellation-if illness, injury, or other covered reasons mean you can’t go

Lost baggage or documents- covering more than just your cycling kit

What it doesn’t cover

Travel insurance won’t cover your bike’s theft or accidental damage while riding, that’s what bicycle insurance is for.

When you might need both

Flying to the Alps for a mountain biking holiday?

Taking part in a European sportive?

Joining a long-distance cycling tour abroad?

In these situations, travel insurance protects you, while bicycle insurance protects your bike. They work together to cover the full picture.
